Out of necessity, throughout the Big Empty, Mr. Ashton Monty Penman emerged after the devastating dust bowl of the 1930’s by fueling the future needs of fellow Texans. Monty was a WWII US Army Veteran and after returning home from the war, he became the region’s first consignee and established a full-service branded Magnolia Mobilegas station located in Rochester, Texas.
Monty’s son, Ray Penman was immersed in the business from an early age. Ray was highly instrumental in refining and developing his father’s business. Ray graduated Texas Tech during the 1960’s joined his father at Penman Oil Company. Together they expanded and launched the region’s first full-service filling station in Knox City, Texas. Ray, ambitious and full of the Lone Star spirit, pioneered the first 24/hour unattended fueling center and developed a proprietary Penman Fuel Card technology to ensure that fuel was always within reach to his customers.
During the 1970’s Ray continued to expand the footprint of propane delivery services and launched the regions first coin-operated car wash in Knox City. In 1976 Monty retired and Ray purchased his father’s business, diversified the company’s portfolio and expanded with innovative technologies and the Penman brand.
Ray’s daughter, Mrs. Lindsey Walker joined Penman Services in 2010 and continues the Penman legacy. In 2014 Lindsey was appointed as the Vice President and CFO, the same year she appointed Mr. Russell Walker as COO.
In 2016 Penman Services launched their premiere convenient store brand, Ranchland Travel Plazas in Benjamin, Texas. Ray Penman continues to serve on the Board of Directors and is the Chief Analyst and Strategic Adviser to Penman Services.
Today Penman Services Ltd. is an exemplary industry leader and strategic partner, providing propane, wholesale bulk fuels and advanced lubricant solutions serving core markets in agriculture, renewable energies, oil and gas field exploration throughout Texas and New Mexico.
